With the latest One UI 7 update, Bixby is no longer front and center, and Gemini is now the main assistant on Galaxy phones and tablets. This move is unusual for Samsung, but it makes sense given Gemini's superior capabilities and Google's reported payment to Samsung for premium placement. Users can now easily disable Bixby and switch to Gemini, which offers advanced AI features, real-time translation, and smart home device control. This change also streamlines phone performance and simplifies the user experience. The shift towards Gemini marks a closer cooperation between Samsung and Google, potentially leading to faster software updates and better device integration.

Researchers at Oligo have discovered flaws in Apple's AirPlay system, allowing hackers to access Wi-Fi networks and infect smart home accessories. The vulnerabilities, found in the AirPlay SDK, can be exploited to gain access to devices such as speakers, televisions, and set-top boxes, potentially allowing hackers to listen in on conversations. Apple has patched the vulnerability on its own devices and issued an updated developer SDK, but third-party firms have not yet announced plans to adopt the code. This means that many devices may remain unpatched, posing a security risk. Users are advised to verify the security of their connected accessories, remove any that are not secure, and ensure that devices are running the latest software updates. It is also recommended to monitor devices and cease use of those that are no longer supported. When installing new smart devices, users should verify that they ship with solid software support to ensure the best possible security.

Researchers at the University of Essex conducted a study to explore how children develop biases towards accents. The study involved 27 five-year-old children in Essex who participated in a computer-based experiment. The children were familiarized with two characters, one labeled "clever" and the other "not clever," and then heard audio clips featuring different UK accents. The results showed that the children associated a standard southern English accent with intelligence, which is consistent with the idea that children will grow up to view standard English as the "correct" form. Interestingly, the children also associated the Essex accent, their home accent, with intelligence, which contrasts with previous research that found negative attitudes towards the Essex accent among young adults. However, the children associated the Yorkshire accent with unintelligence, which corresponds with prevalent accent prejudice against northern accents in the UK. The study also found that children who had been exposed to a broader range of accents at home were more positive towards different accents overall and less likely to associate them with unintelligence. This suggests that exposure to accent variation may be key in tackling accent discrimination from a young age. The researchers conclude that children are not born with biases towards accents, but rather are socialized into believing them, and that early exposure to accent diversity can help mitigate accent discrimination.

The article discusses the Eero Pro 7, a Wi-Fi 7 mesh router with tri-band support for 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz. It can handle up to 200 connected devices and is ideal for congestion management, with a coverage area of up to 2,500 square feet per unit. The router is available for $300 and is suitable for midrange shoppers looking to upgrade their network. However, it may not be the best option for complicated smart home setups, and its performance depends on the type of connected devices and their connection type. The article concludes that the Eero Pro 7 is a good choice for those looking to upgrade to Wi-Fi 7 without breaking the bank, but for more robust network support, the Eero Max 7 may be a better alternative.

A certified sleep science coach and mattress editor at Forbes Vetted applied feng shui principles to her bedroom, resulting in improved sleep quality. Feng shui expert Anjie Cho and Coop Sleep Goods cofounder Kevin Chon provided guidance on creating a balanced bedroom. Three key considerations for better rest include: 1. Commanding position: The bed should be positioned to allow a clear view of the door, promoting safety and control. 2. Clearing clutter: Avoid storing items under the bed, as clutter can negatively impact sleep quality. 3. Lighting: Balance yin and yang energies by limiting electronic device use and external light pollution before bedtime. By incorporating these principles and making intentional design choices, the editor transformed her bedroom into a calming and inviting space, improving her sleep quality. Feng shui may not be scientifically proven, but its alignment with positive sleep hygiene practices and the editor's personal experience demonstrate its potential benefits.

Cinneah El Amin, a 30-year-old product manager and entrepreneur, increased her annual salary from $72,000 in 2017 to $186,000 in 2021 and now makes around $190,000. She recommends three strategies to boost income: 1. Identifying "high-value work" within your company and networking with people in those roles to learn necessary skills. 2. Considering a job change, as workers who switch jobs often see faster wage growth than those who stay in one place. 3. Creating a side hustle by monetizing existing skills, such as accounting, content strategy, or data analysis, to earn extra cash outside of a full-time job. El Amin emphasizes the importance of being intentional about career growth and not staying in a company beyond your "expiration date." She also suggests that people should assess their options and look for new opportunities, even in a challenging job market.
